NSC Environmental Management System / "ISO 14001" certification by GL

The philosophy of environmental protection has basically already been included in the ISM-Code. However, environmental protection here means only the avoidance of damages to the environment ("damages to the environment, in particular the marine environment").

The ISM – Code is acting preventive and reactive. Accidents shall be avoided by planning of all processes, systematic controlling and maintaining of the ship. Also in case of emergency the ship management and the shipping company must be prepared to minimize damages and to regain control over the situation.

These are important aspects of the DIN EN ISO 14001 “Environmental Management System” as well.

New on one hand is that the essential requirements have been consolidated, and on the other hand include requirements that go far above and beyond these international standards and regulations, e.g.

· All ships in the NSC Fleet have TBT-free underwater coatings, in order to burden the environment as little as possible.

· NSC likeliwise uses the "Emergency Response Service" provided by GL to reduce the possible impacts to the environment in case of accidents.

In addition the "ISO 14001" requires the aspect of continual improvement of the company's environmental management system
